I just filed my tax return today, but forgot to include info from a 1099-INT form. Can I use the amend feature and select add 1099-MISC?

No, use the add 1099-INT form. (Instructions follow.)

Since you have already filed your return, you'll need to wait for your tax return to either be rejected or accepted, if it is rejected you can add your Form 1099-INT, correct any other errors on the return and resubmit it. If it is accepted, you will need to amend your return to include the Form 1099-INT and 1098. You can not e-file an amended return as this cannot be filed electronically.  The form is only filed on paper, so it will need to be printed and filed by mail.

To enter a Form 1099-INT in TurboTax online program, go to:

1.      Sign into your account, select Take me to my return

2.      In the upper right corner, in the search box, type in 1099int

3.      On screen, Did you receive any interest income? answer Yes to continue

Please see the following TurboTax FAQ for instructions on how to amend your 2016 tax return in TurboTax.

I am using the Desktop version for 2020 and when I amend my return for a 1099-INT that arrived very late, I can't find a selection for 1099-INT. I only see 1099-MISC. Could you provide instructions for adding a new 1099-INT to a return I am amending. Note: I already e-filed last month.

Since there is not a link to add interest on the screen, What do you need to change on your return?  use these steps:

  1. Click the Personal Income link at the top of the screen.
  2. In the Interest and Dividends section, click the Start/Update box next to Interest on 1099-INT.
  3. Go through the screens, entering the requested information.
  4. You can now click on Other Tax Situations, and click the Update box next to Amend a return
  5. On the screen, What do you need to change on your return? scroll to the bottom and click Done.
  6. Continue through the screens and follow the instructions to print and mail your return.  [If you e-filed the original return, you may e-file the amended return as well.]

I may be missing something. I click Amend Return and I am presented with options to update:

W-2

PMI/Tuition

1098-T

1099-E

1095-A

1099-R

1099-MISC

etc.

Other Tax Situation (OK, I clicked here)

Now, There is no 1099-INT button next so I click "Amend a Return" and it loops right back to the original list?

I found the place to click, it is at the very top as you mentioned but I didn't think those were the buttons.

Thank You
