I filed on 1/11/19 and my status is still pending? Why?

That's normal for most people.   The IRS does not open up for normal processing of returns until January 28.  A few returns are pulled early for testing purposes.  The vast majority of folks will have to wait until January 28, or it might even be up to a couple days later, due to the backlog when they "open the gate" on January 28.
