I filed my taxes on Feb. 13, 2020...but the IRS still has not processed my return

I e-filed my taxes on February 13, 2020. I went months without hearing anything from the IRS beyond the message telling me my return was accepted. Then, around the beginning of November, I got a letter saying I needed to fill out and submit the healthcare form, which I did and I mailed in immediately. I also went from supposedly getting a very small refund to owing money because of the healthcare stuff (I think...the form was confusing). My question is...it is now January 5, 2021 and the IRS still has not processed my return. I've tried checking online, but refund status is unavailable, stimulus payment information is unavailable, I can't get through on the phone. Beyond this making it so I don't get the stimulus payment, I can't file FAFSA or anything until this is complete. What is going on?

I am totally in same situation. And now I see the verification of non-filing letter on my 2019 transcript. IRS, of course, never picked up the phone... I have  no idea. I feel you.

With the COVID-19 shutdowns and the demands of the stimulus payment process, it is difficult to get answers from the IRS.  Perhaps you'd have better luck contacting a local office of the IRS.  For contact information, please go to this page on the IRS website:  Telephone and Local Assistance

Regarding the stimulus payments, if you don’t get a payment and you are eligible to receive one, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit using the TurboTax program.

To do this in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  1. Enter the information in your return.
  2. Click Federal Review at the top of your screen.
  3. On the screen, Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  4. You will be asked about the amounts of first round and second round stimulus payments you received
  5. TurboTax will then calculate the amount of stimulus payment remaining that you are still entitled to.  This will show as a credit on line 30 of the 1040.
