I filed my return for federal on March 18th. The IRS still has not taken my federal tax payment from my bank account. How long does this normally take?

The money is withdrawn from your bank account on the date you specified   (if you did not select a date, the debit date will automatically default to 04/18/2016).   However during busy peak times this withdrawal may be delayed.  IF you still don't see the debit 7-10 days after the date you chose for the debit or your return has been accepted, call IRS e-file Payment Services at 1-888-353-4537 or contact your state tax agency, as appropriate.

To see the direct deposit/debit information you entered on the tax return, you can look at the tax return itself OR on the Federal Information Worksheet, Part V (see image below).

The bank information is on the following lines of the tax return:

  • Form 1040 - Line 76 b, c, d
  • Form 1040A - Line 48 b, c, d
  • Form 1040EZ - line 13 b, c, d

To view/print a form using TurboTax Online

  • Sign-in to TurboTax Online
  • click My Account
  • then Print Center (see image 2 below),
  • choose Federal Information Worksheet

OR

Sign back into TurboTax Online.

Click on Add a State to quickly access your original return (don't worry you are not adding another state, this is just a way to get back into your return).

Click on File and your payment information will come back up.

They're being more careful because of fraud. They have as long as they like 🙂
