How long after the state do you get the federal?
The Federal and state refunds are not related. They come separately from 2 different tax agencies. There's no pattern as to which one will come first; there are too many variables and some states are faster, while others are much slower. Some people get the Federal refund before the state refund, while others get the state first.

What is the "it" that is doing the saying? Where did you get the date of May 5? Is that what is showing at the IRS "Where's My Refund" site, or is that a date provided by TurboTax? TurboTax provides an estimate based on the common situation of 21-day average, but it can be longer or shorter. Go by the IRS tool. What is displayed there? Is there any message?

Is your Federal refund supposed to go directly from the IRS to your bank account (or card), or did you have any fees that you chose to pay out of your Federal refund? You appear to be using Free Edition, so you may not have had any fees--at least that's what the product tag says underneath your question. If you did have any fees that you chose to pay that way, the funds go first to another bank where the fees are subtracted. If you had no fees, that part doesn't apply to you.
