I filed my back in April and it is now the end of August and I have yet to see my returns. The IRS has no information for my filed tax returns either. What should I do?

I filed my taxes with TurboTax back in the beginning of April. It is now nearing the end of August and I have yet to see my tax returns. I try to track the status off my tax returns through the IRS website and they claim to not have any information on my filed taxes. I filed with TurboTax and even received my TaxReturn pdf through TurboTax, yet there’s no status on my returns anywhere.

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?

  Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”

Note:  If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself.  TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
