The status of an amended federal tax return, Form 1040-X, will be shown on this IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return
Unfortunately, when I check on this website, I get the answer that the information you provided is incorrect. There is no chance that my ssn or date of birth is wrong. Unfortunately, I tried all possible zip codes.
How did you file the amended return? E-file or print and mail?
If you e-filed did you get confirmation that the e-filed return was accepted by the IRS?
If you printed, signed, dated and mailed the return did you use a tracking service to confirm that the IRS received the mailed return?
When did you file the amended return?
I made my amended return on February 27. I made my refund through turbotax. I also received a confirmation email. I wonder if I'm not getting my refund because I don't live in the USA anymore. Because I read something like this.
Returns you can't check with Where's My Amended Return
Where's My Amended Return can't give you the status for:
Business returns
Returns with a foreign address
Carryback applications and claims
Injured spouse claims
Form 1040 marked as an amended or corrected return (instead of 1040-X)
Returns processed by special units such as Examination or Bankruptcy
If your amended tax return was filed with a foreign address then the status of the return will not be shown on the IRS website.
Also, be aware it takes the IRS at least 20 weeks and sometimes longer to process an amended return.
You can contact the IRS from an international location by using the procedures shown in this IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/help/contact-my-local-office-internationally
The IRS has stated that on average an amended return takes 5 months to process. Be patient.
Still waiting 😕
@meligkc Do not expect quick results from amending. It is taking the IRS five months or more to process amended returns. And....the IRS will not make a direct deposit to a foreign bank. They will only mail a check to the address you used on your tax return.
You can watch for information here:

So I do not live there anymore and I did not use my foreign bank for this process. I have an American bank account. Lets be clear for whole this process. I worked at company A and B. I applied for tax refund only for company A. After I realized that I forgot company B. At that time I already got my tax refund from company A and I tried to apply for company B. Turbotax said you should do amended tax refund. I did this process very well. So I am waiting for amended tax refund since february.
Okay----then all you can do is keep waiting. Watch for information on the IRS site for amended returns.
@meligkc I just re-read your post---and this line in your post is confusing. Could you please explain what you mean by this:
"I thought I would apply for my taxes separately, but the tax refund was applied for the same state at once."
Federal and state returns are prepared and filed separately. Did you prepare a state return? Did you need to prepare a state return to seek a refund of tax withheld for a state?
Let me explain. As I said I thought I would do the process first for company A and then for company B. But I had to file both companies at the same time. Both of my jobs were in the same state. Then, when I wanted to add company B, the amended process started.
Yes--all of your income was supposed to be on the same federal and same state tax return forms. You do not prepare separate tax returns for multiple employers. So you had to amend to add the income from the second employer. Did you also amend the state return and send in a new return to the state to report the income to the state?
Yes I did everything you asked.
