I elected to have a physical check sent for my refund. Can I switch that to do direct deposited into my bank account?

It depends.  If you have already sent your return, then no, you can't change it, unless your return gets rejected.  

If it is rejected or not sent yet, then you can definitely go back in and choose direct deposit before submitting or resubmitting.
