I dont feel that I truly fix it when I revisit. How do I actually fix my return? am I missing a step or should I go back in and walk through from the beginning?

Sometimes the program will pop you back to a particular area to fix an error and sometimes you just need to go yourself to the area, such as W-2 where the error is occurring. 

Although not big and bright, there is a reference to what the error is and you can go back to that section.
