I accidentally omitted a W2.

I filed my tax return. And I'm not used to having two W2's to file. The final W2 just arrived. I know I will need to file an amended return. But I have read several articles online that all suggest that I should wait until the expected refund ($8100) comes out. I began another mock tax return (without submitting it officially of course, since I've already submitted my tax return), just to see if they're still will be a refund do, and with both W2s, it comes out to be about$6,500 less of a refund. That's probably what I would loan. My question is since the IRS has already accepted my return, won't they just make the adjustment themselves so I won't have to file the amended return? Please advise.

Sometimes the IRS will catch the mistake immediately. That's why it is important to not amend until you receive the refund.

So realistically you're saying that basically, they are going to go ahead and send the 8100 as calculated? Because if so, I will just use that to go ahead and pay what I actually owe. I don't want to get into any kind of trouble. Please advise.

You may get the full refund if they do not catch the mistake immediately. You would then file your amendment and send back any money that you owe out of that refund if you are sent he entire $8100.00. You will not get into trouble since you are planning to amend and send back the extra money.

They key is to make sure not to Amend until your return is fully processed.

Okay. Sounds good to me. I am confused though. The W2 that I finally received in the mail, when I was doing the pretend file again just to get a ballpark of where I was.... Mind you, I didn't submit it because my return has already been submitted, TurboTax said they will explain to me why my refund would be significantly less. The reason was because I didn't have any taxes taken out of that particular employer. But for 12 months, I have nothing but taxes taken out of every check. And I didn't have to enter any information for the W2. The W2 was already in the system. TurboTax made it very convenient, and when I pulled it up, it was the exact W2 from my job as listed. I logged into my personal Human Resources portal on my company's website and compared the W2 that was already in the system for TurboTax, with what my Human Resources head, and they were both identical. And you could see the taxes. So I don't know what they were referring to.

I am not sure. It is hard to tell without seeing it. Maybe you could contact customer service and they could take a look with you to see if can get that message again ( that no taxes were taken out) . https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact/
