I accidentally marked "someone can claim" me as a dependent but no one did.

okay so what if i dont qualify as a child (i was 24 at the end of the year), and as a qualifying relative i made more than 4,200 dollars and dont live at home? i accidentally clicked the box, because i thought my parents were going to claim me but they literally cannot in any capacity

or literally just run SSN and look at their gross income? i mean i legitimately cannot be claimed, actually anyone 24 and up that made more than 4,200 cannot be claimed. so how come im screwed when Turbo tax should have recognized this? I mean its reviewed by experts? so Experts helped me file a fraudulent return?

Your ONLY option is to amend the return to correct the error.

I was told this by a tax professor..our only choice would be to amend asap.

It looks like we have to amend our federal tax return asap unfortunately. Surprisingly in 2020, the government process with this is still archaic. You have to print it out on turbotax and mail it. The IRS doesn't accept amend federal tax return via online. The estimate time is 16 weeks to process an amend federal tax return. We might receive our stimulus check 3 to 5 months from now. We're all in the same boat here. Good luck guys!

Guys on April 17th IRS is putting up a website where u can track you check (if you are getting one and have not received it) so if you dont get no answers here. Get on IRS.gov on Friday put ur information in and I'm guessing u can check if ur getting one or not.

I wouldn't believe what anyone says on here. Wait until Friday when the app goes live and check for yourself. Do not panic

Yes I know it’s live but it’s said to me that they can’t find my check
