You cannot make changes to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted.   If it gets rejected, you can still make the changes.   But if it is already accepted, you have to wait for the IRS to process it, and then you can file an amended return.   If you did not file your state return, you can Add the State return to your federal return once the federal is accepted.   What is the current e-file status of your tax return?
