First, you filed an extension for the Federal tax return.
Then you filed the Federal tax return. Is this the correct sequence of events?
Has the Federal tax return been accepted by the IRS?
If the Federal tax return has been filed and rejected, you have not filed a Federal tax return. You may review and correct the tax return for later filing.
If the Federal tax return has been filed and accepted, you have only filed once. The information that you filed may not be correct. An amended tax return would need to be prepared to correct your Federal tax filing.
Correct. I filed an extension and then immediately filed my federal + state taxes afterward in a moment of confusion. I'm awaiting one last income statement to include and wasn't sure it would be here in time to file.
The Federal tax return was accepted by the IRS, and my account has sent money twice to the IRS.
If the IRS has not sent your extra payment money back to you, when you file your amended return, you should indicate the total amount paid (from both bank account deductions).
