How to amend a 2021 tax return that I received a refund

I understand that I can't file an amended federal tax return 2021 until Match 17. Once I amend the federal return can I submit it electronically or do I have to submit a paper version. I will owe money on the amended return. Do I send the IRS a Check for the amount I owe them.

Yes,  you can e-file your 2021 amended tax returns. If you used TurboTax to prepare Form 1040-X, follow the software's instructions to e-file the amendment.  If you owe money with the amendment, you can pay by credit card or direct debit, or if you want to send in your money by check, then choose to pay by check and the program will print a payment voucher to send in with your payment.

For years prior to 2021, you'll need to print and mail your amended return. Follow these instructions to amend a return you already filed.

Three weeks after mailing your amendment, you can start tracking it at Where's My Amended Return? on IRS.gov.

Currently the date for Form 1040-X availability is February 24, 2022 for e-file of 2021 tax return.
