Amending your return means filing a new form, 1040X. This is only required in certain situations. Amend if you already mailed your return (or the government accepted your e-file) and:
How to Amend your 2022 Tax Return
Not quite the answer I was looking for… I would like to know whether TurboTax has made the changes regarding hurricane Ian in 2022 that will allow deductions made without regard to the 10% AGI minimum and whether or not you are actually using itemized deductions… this was passed within the last month and signed by the president
The 2024 program has been updated to reflect the change in Hurricane Ian deduction status. The 2022 program will follow but it may take a little time to update.
Will 2022 and 2023 have to be amended before 2024 can be completed?
You won't need to do the amendments first as long as you don't need any information from the previous year returns to complete your 2024 tax return. For instance, if you had things like unallowed losses that carry over to future years, you may need to amend the previous year tax returns to determine the amount of the losses and have them reported to the IRS so they can see what is going on when you file your 2024 return. Without knowing specifically why you are amending the returns I can't give a more definitive answer.
Is the 2022 Turbotax program available? If not, when and how will we be notified?
You can get TurboTax for 2022 from Intuit.
Other retailers may also offer it.
