How soon can I amend my 2024 tax returns

Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a current year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-curr...

Note - The 2024 federal amended tax return, Form 1040-X, is estimated to be available for filing using TurboTax on 02/20/2025.

You can amend your 2024 tax returns using TurboTax once the IRS has processed your original return and the necessary forms are available.

  • Typically, Form 1040-X for amendments becomes available in Turbo Tax mid to late February. Before starting the amendment process, ensure you have received your tax refund or that your tax payment has been processed by the IRS.
  • To check when specific forms are available in TurboTax, you can visit the TurboTax forms availability table.
  • For further documentation you can refer to the TurboTax help article.

I submitted my taxes through cashapp taxes. Can I file an amend through TurboTax?

You can but it may be easier to do the amended with the same software. Otherwise, with TurboTax, you have to start from the beginning and recreate your original return, mark that you are mailing it to complete the file. Then do an amended return. Plus, you may have a state return to amend.
