If you haven't filed your income tax return, to edit your Employer Identification Number (EIN), follow the next steps:
- Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
- Locate your W-2 and select the Jump to link in the search results.
- Click the Edit button next to the employer with the incorrect EIN.
- Correct the 9-digit Employer ID Number from your W-2 (do not enter the hyphen) to match your physical W-2 form, then continue to save.
If you filed your income tax return and the Employer Identification Number (EIN) is wrong, you will probably get rejected. You can fix it.
In case your return was already accepted by the IRS, you will need to file an amended return to change the EIN.
