How come I never got my stimulus payment

We're sorry to hear that you haven't received your payment yet.

We’re doing everything we can to help customers affected by the IRS error get their stimulus payments as soon as possible. We will have more emails going out in the coming days, so if you haven’t received an email yet, it could still be on its way.

If you didn’t receive an email confirming your stimulus payment is on the way:

  • We may not have enough information to process a payment for you
  • You may not be eligible to receive a stimulus payment
  • We are still working with the IRS and Treasury to find an alternative way to deliver stimulus payments to all eligible customers.

Check the IRS Get My Payment tool. The tool should tell you where your stimulus payment was deposited or mailed. The IRS has indicated there’s nothing you can do to change where they send your payment.

  • Note: Updates may not be immediately reflected on IRS.gov, including the Get My Payment tool.

If you were entitled to a stimulus payment but did not receive one, and you didn’t pay for TurboTax with your refund last year, you may need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 taxes to get your money.

How come I never got my stimulus payment

Stimulus payments were advances on the Recovery Rebate Credit.

If you received the full amount of both stimulus payments (Economic Impact Payments), you won’t get any additional credit on your return this year since you’ve already received the full amount of the credit as stimulus payments.

If you didn't receive the full amount for your first or second-round stimulus payments, we'll help you claim the Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your taxes this year.

Here’s how:

  • Enter all of your federal return information as you would normally. During the Federal Review, we’ll check if you meet eligibility requirements for the stimulus payment. If you meet the requirements, we'll ask a few questions about any payments you've already received and then let you know if the Recovery Rebate Credit applies.
    • If you need to make any changes to your stimulus credit responses, search for stimulus and select the jump-to link at the top of the search results to return back to the section. Enter your updated info and Continue.

It’s important that you enter the correct amount of each stimulus payment you received. The first stimulus payments were made between April and September of last year, while the second round of payments were delivered during January and February. You can find the exact amount,

  • On your IRS letter-Notice 1444 and/or 1444-B which were mailed to you with the headline, “Your Economic Impact Payment Has Arrived” and were signed by the president. Or,
  • By visiting IRS.Gov and creating or accessing your account. Or,
  • In your bank statements. You might be able to search your online statements for deposits made by the IRS or US Treasury.

How come I never got my stimulus payment

I never got my money for 2017 are 2020 where is my payment and stimulus

How come I never got my stimulus payment

@taylayk 2017?   You have waited too long to ask about 2017.   It is too late to receive a refund for a 2017 return.  If you filed it on time in 2018, and did not receive your refund you should have been asking long ago.

As for the stimulus checks.....the only way to get those now if you were eligible in 2020 and/or 2021 is to file tax returns for those years and use the recovery rebate credit.  The recovery rebate credit is found in Federal Review.

Online preparation and e-filing for 2019 and 2020 and 2021 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2019, 2020 or 2021 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

Or use the paper forms and prepare them by hand.

How come I never got my stimulus payment

There was no stimulus payment in 2017. The IRS sent two payments in 2020 and one payment in 2021.

If you already filed those years, file an amended return. The IRS corrected returns that had the wrong stimulus amounts, but the service did not add stimulus payments if you did not claim them on your 2020 and 2021 tax returns.

If you never filed a 2020 or 2021 return, you can file those returns. The IRS will include your stimulus in your refund as a Recovery Rebate Payment.

You can only prepare the current tax year online in TurboTax. To file prior year returns, buy the prior year programs and install them on your computer.

Go to File your 2021 taxes and File your 2020 taxes

If you used TurboTax in 2020 and/or 2021 you can amend your return for free.

See: How do I amend my federal tax return?
