How can I open up my 2016 turbotax file?

I have an old 2016 TurboTax file that I want to open.

You would need that year’s program.

You have the data file ending in .tax2016?   Only if you have the 2016 program installed and the state programs. But Turbo Tax only supports the last 3 years so even if you install an old program you won't be able to update it or download any state programs you need.

OR you could try the TaxPrinter service to convert a .tax file to pdf at
https://www.taxprinter.com  They are not related to Turbo Tax.
