@jenmariewheaton2024 asked: "How can I get my trace number for my taxes?"
Are you trying to trace a return that has been efiled and not received by the IRS? Or are you trying to trace a refund payment that the IRS sent after processing your return? Or is it something else?
Please provide more context about what you are trying to do with a "trace number." What are you trying to trace and with whom? Is someone asking you for this number? This is a public Internet forum, so don't post any personal info in the forum.
I'm trying to track my federal refund I guess ...I verified with the IRS almost 4 weeks ago and nothing has updated on TurboTax or the IRS website....I figured there was some way to either trace or track my refund
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
To track your state refund:
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

If you went through the IRS ID verification process, then according to the IRS website it might take "up to 9 weeks" to finish processing and get a refund but that page is dated 2022, which was still during Covid and has not been updated at the IRS site. According to a more recent TurboTax article below, TurboTax said it can take "about 6 weeks." So I guess somewhere between 6-9 weeks, but it may not take that long, since they say "up to" and "about". I suspect that like many things at the IRS the time frame is highly variable.
