How can I access my late bother in law’s past Turbo Tax returns.

My brother in law passed away in Dec. 2024. I am now executor of his estate. I think he may not have filed taxes for 2023 due to seeing txt notifications on his phone from TurboTax saying to finish filing his 2023 taxes or file another extension, however I have no way to get into his TurboTax account to figure out if he did or didn’t file. I have not found any copies of returns at his house.I did find (and paid) two bills from the IRS totaling around $8,000 from tax year 2022 on unclaimed income (like his social security). I am going to have to file an extension for his 2024 taxes. How can I gain access to his Turbotax info to try to figure this mess out?

For security reasons we can not release that information.

However, the key is that you have to use the same ID and password as last year

If don't have the user ID or password, but still have access to a phone or email, you can still access your account. This is the fastest way to access your account if you lost or forgot your credentials.

  1. Go to the sign-in help page.
  2. Enter the phone number, email address, or user ID for your account.
    • If you enter a phone number or email address, we’ll send you a text or email with a verification code. If you enter a user ID, choose the method you prefer.
  3. Enter the verification code we sent, or follow the instructions in the message. We may ask you for more info to make sure it’s really you.
  4. When prompted, reset your password or select Skip.

If you’re still unable to recover your account, select Sign in a different way.

Unfortunately i don’t have access to his email or phone anymore. I did requested transcripts from the IRS but haven’t received them yet. Well, wish me luck! Thanks for your time and help.
