If you used desktop software downloaded/installed from a CD to your own computer, then the tax files are stored locally on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive. They are not stored online. If you cannot recover them due to a hard drive failure, etc. you can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $43, an actual copy of your tax return.

Do you want to transfer 2022 into 2023? If you have the .tax2022 data file on your computer you can transfer it into either into the Online version or the Desktop program. See if you can find it. It should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2022. You might have the special backup file starting with ~name.tax2022.
Here's an idea. Do you still have 2022 installed? Try opening 2022 program and see if you can get your 2022 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. Then save it again with a name and place you can find. Go to File - Save As. Then start a new 2023 return and transfer from the 2022 file.
