Filing error ?

I filed my taxes, or should I say TT filed my taxes on 02-11-2019. This was the first full year after I retired. My refund showed an amount. 3 months later I received a letter from IRS stating they need copies of my return, all income from all sources and also taxes paid. I scanned all of these documents and mailed them. 2 weeks later I received another letter from IRS asking me to verify my identity, which I did. After the IRS sent me another letter stating my identity was verified I was advised my refund would be paid within 9 weeks. I finally checked 'Where's my refund' and found out it had been paid. The amount was substantially greater than what TT had calculated. Obviously TT errored and where was this error? I want to talk to someone to figure this out.

Filing error ?

Have you received an explanatory letter from the IRS?  Did you perhaps forget to claim estimated tax payments that you made?

Filing error ?

The estimated taxes paid were claimed on the return.

Filing error ?

Just to provide some clarity here.

" or should I say TT filed my taxes on 02-11-2019"

Nope, that's not right. TurboTax does not, can not and will not file a tax return for anyone by any method, under any circumstances. There are no exceptions. Only the tax filer can file their return by clicking that big orange TRANSMIT RETURNS NOW button.

" The amount was substantially greater than what TT had calculated"

TurboTax does not guarantee amounts. They guaranty the accuracy of the program's calculations which are based on the data you enter and the selections you make. Sounds to me like you may have forgotten to report estimated taxes you paid, or you classified income as taxable when it was not taxable. Could be anything and we could spend all day guessing.

Generally, when the IRS changes something on your tax return you will receive a letter from the IRS in the mail explaining what they changed, why the changed it, and what actions to take if you dispute the changes. There's also a deadline specified in that letter. So if any changes are disputed but not responded to within the deadline, then it's kinda like "to bad, you lose" on your dispute.

Some of the letters I've seen from the IRS are rather "cryptic" when it comes to explaining what was changed and why. In such cases if you provide the details of that letter (without including any personally identifiable information) we can help you understand it.

Finally, in the case of the IRS changing something, you can expect a letter of explanation 3-4 weeks after you receive your refund.
