Federal & State taxes.

After reviewing everything, when it came to my signature it said Federal & State filed on "null". It said I was doing good and I completed everything. T said Everythings good & done. Please help me, my 2018 taxes weren't mailed until April 9, 2020. And I'm trying to file my 2019. I'm unemployed and need my return. I'm told the stimulus checks are linked to my returns and I'm having issues. It said not to worry, it'll help. So Please "Help Me". Mary Johnson

You filed your 2018 return very late.  Your 2018 AGI is not in the system, so you cannot use it to e-file your 2019 return.  You can try using zero instead.  If using zero will not let you e-file 2019, then you have to print, sign and mail 2019.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Unfortunately because you filed so late, your chances of getting a stimulus check may not be very good.  Mailed returns are taking a VERY long time to be opened and processed.  Even your 2018 return may still be sitting in a pile of unopened mail.

Per the IRS website IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continue:

Processing Delays for Paper Tax Returns: Taxpayers should file electronically through their tax preparer, tax software provider, or IRS Free File

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

The IRS can look at your 2018 or 2019 return to issue a stimulus check.  If they do not have a 2018 return then you may be waiting for them to finish processing 2019 before they will be able to use it to issue your stimulus check.

TurboTax has no control over your stimulus check, nor can TT track it for you or tell you when the IRS will issue it. Refer to the sites linked below:

@Mayjstaxes

I never recommend filing a tax return in January or even too early in February, but in your case, do not be so late about filing your 2020 return next year--sometime around mid to late February would be okay.  The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can get on your 2020 tax return, so if you do not receive it this year you can get it when you file your 2020 tax return.
