Federal Efile Rejected Duplicate 1099-R info

I had my return rejected twice for this software issue.  I have three 1099-R's.  Two of them are identical except for one of them is for me, and the other one is for my spouse.  They are for IRA withdrawals in order to do the backdoor Roth IRA thing that we do every year.  I finally added one cent to one of the 1099-R's (after seeing this blog) and also went to the "forms" tab in TurboTax and input the date of the withdrawal in box 13 on one of the 1099-R's, and I put the account numbers in the boxes provided so that it was very clear that these are two different 1099-R's for two different people.  I then resubmitted the return a third time and it was accepted in about 15 minutes.  The first two times took about 24 hours to be rejected.  This was very maddening and time consuming.  TurboTax and the IRS should work to fix this as clearly it is happening to a lot of people.

Same here. My spouse and I contributed the same amount to our individual IRA accounts from the same broker. I've double checked that I chose the correct owner for each 1099-R, yet the e-filing was rejected due to duplicated 1099-R forms. I am using the Turbotax Premier CD version.

I'm hesitant to try the "add one penny" trick because that would sound as if one of the accounts was contributing more than the annual IRA limit, which may potentially put us on unnecessary IRS auditing risk. I ended up mailing the return form, and let's see how it goes.

This issue was widely reported inTurboTax community last year, yet it wasn't fixed this year. I hope TurboTax can fix this issue soon, because I've used it for many years and really like a lot of its features, but don't want to lower its usability due to this minor thing.

@bauerjack What is entered on your tax return is the Total amount withdrawn and the Total taxable amount.  This number is entered as a whole number.

So for example if each of the Form 1099-R's had $1000.45 then the total on the tax return would be ($1000.45 + $1000.45 = $2000.90) rounded up to $2001.  So removing $0.01 would have no effect on what is reported on the tax return in this example.
