Enter 0 (zero) for the 2019 AGI and e-file again.

Will give it a try, thanks

you can also get it from the IRS

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

You can get various Form 1040-series transcript types online or by mail. If you need your prior year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) to e-file, choose the tax return transcript type when making your request.

Change last years AGI to $0 or to didn't file and try again.  Worked for me.

Just because they cashed your check does not mean that they processed your return yet.  Particularly if you paper filed.  You can find out if they processed it by getting a transcript of last years taxes from the IRS.

Changed AGI to $0.  Return was accepted by IRS.  Will check history if necessary in a couple of weeks.

Efile rejected for 2020

Under the fix it tab, it appeared that they wanted the agi from 2019.   I reenter that (which was correct) and they second attempt to efile was also rejected.    The is significant difference between the 2019 agi and the 2020 agi .

Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) e-file rejections

Customers with amended, rejected or incomplete TY19 returns may see Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) errors in our system causing e-file rejections. In these situations, the AGI from the amended, rejected or incomplete return is pulled into the current year return. We are working on a fix for this issue.

 Action Needed

  1. If the customer amended or started an amended return in TY19, ensure the AGI in the file section of the return is the AGI listed before the return was amended.
  2. Have your customer follow the instructions in the following article: What if I entered the correct AGI and I'm still getting an e-file reject?
  3. For further guidance, use your internal job aid Top Ways to Find Prior Year AGI.

Efile rejected for 2020

Here is our most common solution to this issue as adding "0" has not worked for us for our clients.

My recommendation is - Even if you have a copy of your prior years' tax return and you enter the correct amount from Form 1040 line 11 adjusted gross income (AGI) you more likely than not will get rejected due to your AGI not equaling the IRS. This should not happen if on Form 1040 Lines 1 - 8, there is only a dollar amount on line 1 which will be the same amount on line 11.   If your return has any dollar amount contained in lines 2b - 8 take the time and go to IRS.gov and for a copy of your transcript as some of these lines appear to be included other sections on the transcript .

Hopefully you've been aware of Form 1040 Line 11 as your AGI. What the IRS appears to have done with the transcripts is shift some of the additional income to different sections on the transcript.

In the case that convinced me to write this reply; the client had W2 income $15,000 (not actual) and Unemployment income $5,000 (not actual). On Form 1040 Line 11 would be $20,000 AGI. The IRS transcript the Income Section includes both numbers, but the $5,000 was then deducted as Other Income. The next section Adjustments to Income total 0, therefore in this case the sum AGI on the transcript was $15,000.

Tax and Credits the next section includes the adjustments etc. totaling the $20,000 however, on the transcript

this line is called TOTAL POSITIVE INCOME PER COMPUTER not AGI.

Our reject therefore was created when we entered the AGI from the 1040 as $20,000 when the transcript AGI line is only $15,000.

I hope this is informative.
