I am clueless what this is and yes I might be a blonde but I need answers. I read this several times but it isn't clicking on what it is.
I thought it was the irs correcting my mistake for claiming the third stimulus when I already got it last year when I checked my bank statements when I thought I didn't get it. It throw me off. I thought they was doing to send me something when they correct my tax return unless I do or try to amend it but I rather not do that.
I got this letter from the department of the treasury internal revenue service saying
Your 2021 economic impact payment(s)
Keep this information with your tax records
Why you received this letter.
Under the American rescue plan, the internal revenue service (irs) issued you 2021 economic impact payment(s) for the following total amount:
Total 2021 economic impact payment(s): 1,400.00
What do you need to do?
This economic impact payment isn't considered taxable income, and you shouldn't report it as income on your 2021 federal income tax return. However, you'll need the total payment amount shown above to determine whether you're eligible to claim the recovery rebate credit on your 2021 federal income tax return.
If you think you didn't receive the full amount of the third economic impact payment you were entitled to. You must file a 2021 federal income tax return to claim the recovery rebate credit, even if you aren't otherwise required to file a tax return.
How can you get more information?

So, the IRS sent out these payments. You were entitled to $1,400. Two things could have happened. You either received it or you didn't. If you received it, answer "yes" to the question asking if you did. If you did not receive it, answer "no" and it will be added to your refund.
The IRS is sending you (and everyone else) letters stating how much if any, they received. They are saying you got $1,400. Checking your bank statement will prove this to be true or false. If you said you got it when you didn't actually receive it, you need to amend your return to receive it. If you said you didn't get it, but actually did, the IRS will adjust your return.
