amended return, old 'refund' applied to 2022 $3707
new amount owed $842
of course TT wants bank info to pay the $842
new refund applied to 2022 is $2865
If the new tax of $842 is paid via check or bank debit then that's double tax.
Since I am still overpaid, I'll wait a good while till TT gets this fixed!!!!

well it looks like TT has a $842 refund and then I pay $842
this would be zero additional tax with a reduction in refund applied to next year.
I tried to back everything thing out, the $842 refund is unmediatable
I call this a 'feature' (read bug) and not acceptable!
" old 'refund' applied to 2022 $3707
new amount owed $842"
If you want your original refund applied to 2022 you must do that on your 1040 and then you can't change it.
If you try to do it on your 1040-X it will cause issues because IRS is going to do what your 1040 said to do.
Only an additional refund should be marked to apply to 2022 on 1040-X
I don't care to pay $842 and have my applied to 2022 reduced, that is what is happening.
" that is what is happening."
If you don't pay amount you owe,
eventually you will get a bill for $842 plus interest and penalties. And your 2022 credit from Form 1040 will still be in your IRS account.
If you see an amount on 1040-X line 23, something is not right.
Bank info is meaningless, you can't have electronic withdrawal for 1040-X.
But it does work for some state amended returns.
