Does anyone know why it is taking so long for returns to be accepted, usually they are accepted before 24 hours

If you e-filed at some earlier time, your return has been in pending on a server. Today, January 23, is the first day that the IRS will begin to accept/reject returns. So now start watching your emails for the message as to whether your return has been accepted or rejected. It could take several days before you get the message.

The IRS is not accepting returns until today. You should get your status (accepted or rejected) in a day or so.
