Does an amendment show your new total return? or does it show additional money being returned?

If you have correctly calculated your amended return, it will show only the additional amount owed to you or the balance you owe the IRS.

When you start an amended return in TurboTax, the "tax ticker" should re-set to zero.  If this did not happen, or if you are unsure, you can "unamend" your return and start over.
