Since you have received a notice from the state, you do not need to amend the state return. The state is already looking at the return for corrections. If you can not provide the receipts for the charitable contributions, the state will adjust the return and disallow the credit initially claimed on the return. This can result in a balance being due to the state. It is best to provide the state with as much documentation as possible.
