Do I have to send in an amended tax return?

Putting in the information for a 401K withdraw Turbotax never asked is taxes were taken out. The broker took out 20% and I see nothing in Turbotax to account for this amount, or even a place to have entered it. Will I have to make an amended return?  Or will the IRS catch this?

Do I have to send in an amended tax return?

Is it on the 1099R in box 4?  There is a box 4 on the same entry screen to enter it.  It should show up on 1040 line16 with any other withholding like from W2s.

The amount was in box 4 of 1099. I never downloaded the 1099. But I think I'm OK as after re-examining the situation I found the taxes withheld on line 16 added up the the amount from wage statements plus the 1099 to the dollar.  Apparently Turbotax just assumes the 20% is withheld. To bad Turbotax does not tell you that as is would have prevented a lot of worry.  Thanks so much for your help.

No you would have had to enter box 4 yourself.  So you must have entered it when you entered the 1099R.

Turbotax does not make such an assumption.

I never did enter the amount.  Turbo never asked for it, just the info from boxes 1 and 2. That it why I was so worried.  Didn't think about added the numbers by hand before sending it off.

No you had to enter it.  You just don't remember.  There are a lot of things to enter on the 1099R.

It's likely the IRS will catch it. That's why you wait until processing is completed by the IRS.
