Hi Guys,
I have sent mail return with ITIN form but the package was delivered to
Delivered, Front Desk/Reception/Mail Room
AUSTIN, TX 73301
can anyone please let me know if this has reached IRS mail room or should I send a new copy to correct ITIN address.
in case IRS didn't receive it then what are my options in proving to IRS that there is no mistake from myside.

Per IRS, you should mail your application to:
Internal Revenue Service
ITIN Operation
P.O. Box 149342
Austin, TX 78714-9342
See the IRS link https://www.irs.gov/instructions/iw7
You should call the IRS to verify if they received your package. You can call the IRS toll-free at 800-829-1040 if you are in the United States or 267-941-1000 (not a toll-free number) if you are outside the United States. This service allows you to check the status of your application seven weeks after submitting Form W-7 and your tax return.

Hi @amohan
I am also in a similar situation. My ITIN application was also delivered to 73301 address even though I had mailed it to the [removed] address and I have not received any response from IRS yet and it is almost 8 weeks now. Did you have to mail in the applications again ?
Thanks in advance!
Did you problem solved? Did you have to mail again? I am kind of similar situation now. USPS routed my mail to 73301 zip code despite of using correct IRS address with zip code 78714.
I had to wait for 6-8 months for my return to get approved and receive email. Till then I had no idea and I was worried if I had to pay penalty for filing late.
but my tax agent was confident to answer that if ever such question comes up.
as long as you have saved the postal receipt, you are safe to show proof of filing.
and , don’t file again and that will cause confusion is what I am told.
you can call IRS after 6 weeks to check in the status but I didn’t get through the answering machine.
be confident and wait. And hold on to all the proof of filing.
good luck
Great. Thank you amohan.
My return was processed in about 14 weeks and I got my ITINS. You don’t have to worry about the address. I guess that is the norm
IRS sent a notice regarding my wife application and I responded to IRS mail and sent some ITIN related copies to IRS address(Internal Revenue Service ITIN Operation PO Box 149342 Austin, TX [removed]) but the USPS status showing Re: Delivered, Front Desk/Reception/Mail Room AUSTIN, TX 73301. I am really confused by this and not sure whether my wife documents reached IRS office or not. She had a due date as 09/01 to submit the documents and I see the above status in USPS on Aug 26th.
Did anyone faced the same in recent months and how long did it take to get the ITIN number and also the documents back from IRS?
Please kindly response to me.
Thanks in advance.
Most importantly don’t worry about the deadline because you sent it before the deadline and it was delivered to front desk. IRS considers your posted date as the date of reply.
secondly, since your application is delivered to front desk, someone checks the content and it will forwarded to ITIN operations, relax.
To confirm you can call and talk to the agent. but tough to get through.
Last year it took close to 4-8 months to get ITIN generated.
I guess wait time is similar this year as well.
Hi,
I sent original passport to ITIN office on Aug 23rd and it shows it delivered to front desk on Aug 26th. But I received a notice from IRS saying that my ITIN application got rejected because of not providing the requested documents.
I am not sure what happened, did they lost my passport? Will I get my passport back? I tried to call the number but it always says unable to transfer the call because of the high volume.
What should I do now?. Did any one face this issue? how to proceed further on this?
Thanks,
Venkatasubbareddy Akki.
Don't Panic, your passport wont be lost.
I would suggest you to keep calling them on the number in this page and read this link https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-[product key removed]e
The notice you would receive will have the specific details of rejection.
you can apply again and this time use option 2 instead of sending in the Passport.
Apply for an ITIN in-person using the services of an IRS-authorized Certifying Acceptance Agent. This will prevent you from having to mail your proof of identity and foreign status documents.
