Cycle code and transcripts

Hi my cycle code usually end in 05 last year it was 04 doe can anyone explain what this means and why mine might have changed?

Your cycle code is determined by which date you filed the return and which date it was uploaded into the IRS files. So the cycle code can change year to year.
