Corrected 1098

After I filed, I received a corrected 1098 from my mortgage company. They put the interest received (box 1) in the outstanding principal (box 2) and I input those numbers (duh -- I should have known better).

I input the correct number in TurboTax and it did nothing to what I owed. Do I have to file an amendment?

You can verify if the entry changed your itemized deduction on line 12 Form 1040. But if it didn't change your refund/balance due, you don't have to file an amended return.

Please see Do I need to amend? for additional information.

If you do file an amended return then  please wait until your refund or payment is processed. Please be aware that you can e-file your 2022 amended federal tax return, but states may require amendments to be printed and filed by mail. Please see How to amend a tax return for instructions.
