Ask Venmo if they will accept the deposit.

It is never a good idea to try and have your tax refund sent to someone else's account.   Most often, the deposit will be refused and sent back to the IRS.  Then it will take weeks for the IRS to issue a paper check and mail it to you.   Instead of chancing that, either just choose to have a check mailed to you or open a bank account ahead of tax time.  This is only December.  You have time to go to a brick and mortar bank and open an account to use for your refund and/or other financial matters.

Here is what the IRS says about using a wrong account or someone else's account:

Most of the time, either the bank or the IRS will refuse to deposit a refund into an account where the name and  SSN of the account owner does not match the taxpayer.
