Can I go back and change a mistake even though the tax refund is being processed?

Unfortunately, you must wait until the tax return is either accepted or rejected.  

If your tax return is rejected, you can correct any mistakes before you refile.  

If your tax return is accepted by the IRS, you must file an amended income tax return to correct any mistakes. Please wait until your return has been processed and you receive your refund before you file the amended return to avoid delays.
