Generally, yes.  But you may need help, and you haven't provided enough information to know what is really happening.

An audit is a big deal, you go in person, they tell you what is wrong, and they give you a letter at the end explaining what they did.  These are very rare.

More common is you get a letter proposing a change to your tax, and giving you 30 days to reply with a payment or with documents and an argument (all by mail) as to why your return was correct.  Sometimes these notices are a little hard to understand, because they use computers and shorthand, but you can decipher them with a little effort.  (But, if you get a letter, and ignore the deadline, the assessment becomes final and it is much harder to dispute.)

What has actually happened?  You had an in person audit, a mail audit, or a letter (CP notice) proposing a change?  What is the notice number and what does it say?

I am a ihss provider for my grandson so taxes are not taken out of my check. I can still claim earned credit. I also work part time and made $6400 for the year so they audited me and did not count the income from IHSS and reduced my earned credit and child care
