Can a 1040 return be sent as a amended return when it wasn't?

I electronically filed a 1040 but the IRS says they  didn't get an amended form. I didn't do an amended form did i click or flag something i shouldn't have?

Something is missing.  Of course they didn't get an amended return.  Are they expecting one? Why?  Did they mail you a letter?  What does it say?  Do they want you to amend?  What is missing?

I haven't received my refund so i checked and the number I called said they were waiting on an amended form that I never filed.  My return was just a 1040 like I  do every year through an accountant.

were you looking at  "Where is My Refund" or at "Where is My Amended Return" ?
