I had already filed my Federal return, it has been accepted and completed,  but not my state when I recieved a 1099misc in the mail. Does my State need to be filed and accepted before I can do an amended return?

                  Thanks

Ok, I purchase my Turbo tax  with the disk and use it that way, so since I've filed the Fed and selected my State I am unable to change anything or restart at this point?  So I should probably just file my state wait for it to be accepted and completed and then file an amended for both?

You can file your state first, then when it gets accepted you can amend both of your returns.  I did not know you were using the CD/Download software.  There are different instructions for deleting a State return with the Desktop software.  You can try that if you want:

How do I clear my state return in the TurboTax for Windows software?

Here's how to clear (delete) a state return in the TurboTax for Windows CD/Download software:

    1. With your return open in TurboTax, switch to Forms mode by clicking the Forms icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
    2. From the File menu in the upper left corner, choose Remove State Return. (This won't delete your state program, just the state tax return.)
    3. Select the return you want to delete and click Remove. Answer Yes to confirm.

If you want to start a new state return, select the Step-by-Step icon in the upper right corner, and then select the State Taxes tab.

If you have not filed your State return yet, you don't amend it, you can just add the additional form to your Federal return & when you go to file your State return, that information will flow to your State from your Federal return.

If your State return has been filed, yes you have to wait until it gets accepted & processed before you can amend.

Ok, that's what I thought to but when I hit "amend" it zeroed out the Fed as well as the state.  So I was confused.  So, it should not create an "amended" form for the state since it has been filed?

I filed my federal return but have not mailed in the state return. I got a schedule k-1 in the mail and need to amend my federal return. Can I do this and then mail in the corrected state return?

To avoid sending an amended state form when you have not filed the original follow these steps.

    1. In TurboTax Online, click the button for Add a State.  This will not add a state but will let you back into your original return.
    2. Add your K1
    3. Review Federal
    4. Got to State and edit the state
    5. Go through all the screens on the state and then e-file just the corrected state return..

    Now Amend your 2020 Federal

    1. Now go to Tax Home
    2. Your Tax Returns and Documents at bottom of page
    3. Click 2020 and Amend
    4. Go through the Amend and make sure your K-1 is there
    5. Then review and e-file the amended federal return
