Our accountant filed a return, but we had asked him not to, since we were waiting for information. But we let him go, and when we did, evidently he filed the return, wife info primary, husband info secondary. We did not know he filed the incomplete return. When I did the taxes using TurboTax, I submitted with husband info primary, wife info secondary. Both were "Accepted" by the IRS. However, the accountant's with the missing info (and a whole lot of manual paperwork), was accepted first, and my understanding is that this takes precedence. Can I now amend my TurboTax return for 2023, and that will now take precedence? Even if the names are out of order? Not sure what to do, but having the ex-accountant file an amendment is the least possible and desireable.

CAN I USE TURBOTAX TO AMEND IF THE RETURN WAS PREPARED SOMEWHERE ELSE?
If you did not use TurboTax to prepare your tax return, it is possible to amend the return using TurboTax but it will really be a pain. It would be better to use the software or service used to file originally. If a paid preparer made a mistake on your tax return, that tax preparer should do the amended return for you at no charge.
In order to use TurboTax to amend your return, you need to purchase the desktop software for the tax year and re-create the return EXACTLY as it appeared when it was filed with the IRS/states. Every line has to be the same. Then you have to "trick" the software into thinking you filed by saying you will mail the return. (but do not mail it) AFTER that, you use the software to prepare a Form 1040X, which has to be printed, signed and mailed to the IRS. It takes the IRS about 6 -9 months to process an amended return

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.
I already filed a return in TurboTax, when I did not realize that the tax preparer was filing it. I can now no longer reach them. Can I use this method still, even though I have submitted via TurboTax and it was "accepted"?
Thank you...
Only 1 return can be accepted. The second return will reject. Did the tax preparer efile or mail it? Did you efile yours before he did? You have to find out which return was accepted first and the IRS processed. Better log into your IRS account and see what they have filed for you.
You can request a transcript from the IRS

Or get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506
