Hello
So I filed my taxes and my return was about 5999. I for got to add my other women from my job. I amended my return and now it says I have a balance of $6,904.00. How is that possible. Is that stating I have to pay my refund back. Looking at the return I see a line that says amount I owe $1808. Which one am I to pay because I'm confused. I look on the irs page and I see I owe only $138. Is the 6904 adjument amount from the original return. Because now I'm confused about what I am paying.

What other women did you need to add? As dependents or a spouse?
You should not amend until the first return has fully processed and you get the first refund or your tax due payment has cleared.
How to Amend this year
You will still get the refund from the first original return or still need to pay the first tax due. In fact you should not even amend until the first return has fully processed and you get the first refund or your tax due payment has cleared.
Then the amended return is only for the difference you get back or owe. I think the cover sheet shows what the original return WOULD have been if you did it right the first time.
Go by the actual 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16. If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.
If you have a tax due, do not send the 1040V. Just include a check with the 1040X. Ignore the 1040V. That is for the original return or what the original return would have been if it didn’t need correcting. Don’t pay the amount on the 1040V. Pay the amount on the actual 1040X line 20.
Okay I see that I owe 6904. Looks like I have to pay my return back plus more. Oh wow thats crazy. But thank you for letting me know. I apperocate the help
I don't think I did my amended tax return correctly. Would i be able to correct the amended return.
There are 4 vouchers that says 452. But it shows that I owe 6904. What do I do with these vouchers. Should I call to set up a payment arrangement.
it's your job to determine you got an original refund you are not entitled to,
or you did not yet get an original refund to which you are entitled.
That determination is summarized by your entries on the final lines of Form 1040-X.
You should reveiw Form 1040-X carefully before you submit it.
Ummmmm. That answer was not necessary but thank you for the comment. Stay blessed.
Are they the 1040ES payment vouchers? The 1040ES are estimates for next year. The 1040ES quarterly estimated tax payments DO NOT get sent to the IRS or state with your return. So they won't be expecting them. They are optional to pay. Turbo Tax is very conservative and doesn't want you to owe too much next year. They might have printed out if you got a one time large income this year. Like if you took a IRA or 401K distribution. You can ignore them. You might want to adjust your withholding at work so you won't owe too much next year.
Did you also get a 1040V? If you have a tax due, do not send the 1040V. Just include a check with the 1040X. Ignore the 1040V. That is for the original return or what the original return would have been if it didn’t need correcting. Don’t pay the amount on the 1040V. Pay the amount on the actual 1040X line 20.
your best bet is to let the IRS process what you sent in .
They may make other changes.
This can take six to twelve months ( a good reason to be accurate the first time you amend).
If you pay the correct tax now, you can amend later if IRS charges you a penalty based on an incorrect 1040-X
Thank you so much for letting me know. Im going to pay down what I owe. So next year I can have my refund in full.
"I for got to add my other women from my job."
Please explain what that means. What other women?
