Amended return

My dependent daughter filed her own tax return and did not select the someone can claim me as a dependent button. This is causing my return to be rejected. Once she amends her return electronically how long does it take the IRS to amend her return. Is this something that is done electronically or is there an extended delay to fix this. Do we have to wait for her return to be fixed in order to file ours?

No, you can electronically file this return and claim your daughter as a dependent by getting her an Identity Protection PIN. Visit IRS IP PIN for further information on how to get a one.

Once you get it, see the steps below to enter it on your return:

Open your return
Go to IP PIN
On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes. Select Add and enter your IP PIN in the space provided.
Select Continue, then select Done.
