Amended return was completed, but right before I became homeless..

I just found out that my amended return was completed on the 20th of August. Just a month ago. But little did I know, because it never came to mind. I became homeless on the first day of September.. Can't reach out the people who live at the address to see if they received it.. More than likely they would have tried to cash it under my name. Well I know I can change my address to GENERAL DELIVERY, but what do I do if I have no idea if it was mailed or returned to the IRS? I don't know where to start.. Do I do the form 8822 to change my address? Do I contact the Bureau of the Fiscal Service with form 1133 ?? The amended return could help me so much but now I am overwhelmed with questions.. I'm afraid that my situation will be worse by the time I receive the refund.. 4,6, or even another 16 weeks... Please help..

Ok ... first amended returns are taking 5 months or more to process so it most likely has not paid out yet so did you check the IRS site for a progress report ?   https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return

Next  put in a change of address form with the post office using any address where you can legally receive mail. 

Then mail in a form 8822 to the IRS to get your address updated.   https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8822.pdf

Well checked it again this morning, received 6/08, adjusted 7/30, completed 8/20.. And as of posting this I'm heading down to mail the change of address IRS form.. I won't need to do a USPS address change because I am requesting the address to be sent to GENERAL DELIVERY. Although the check my amended return page did mention they were going to mail a letter (repayment, owed, loss, blah, etc) and/or a check.... 5 weeks ago. In any case, thank you, just hoping it doesn't take 6+ weeks. This past couple of days I hit rock bottom. I'll post if I run into any other issues.. Take care, be safe and blessed be..
