Amended return delay? Is this "new normal?"

Hello!  🙂  We filed an amended return for a prior year and it shows received on 3/1 but as of 8/20 has STILL not been processed.  Is this the "new normal" or did something go wrong with ours?  The phone and web simply list "delays" and I have no way to reach a person to ask directly...

This is very much the current normal as the IRS is short staffed  and over tasked ... expect amended returns to take 6 months or much more to process ... some have reported it has taken more than a year.

Dang!  I feel for them.  I don't like taxes, but those are real people with families stuck in this mess with the rest of us.  Thank you.
