Amended results are not the same as I calculated doing the return twice

I detected a couple errors in my return, so I first copied my return to a duplicate file and then proceed to adjust the backup version of the return.  It came out with a certain result of money that I owed (thankfully less than the original return).

Then I proceed to begin the official amended return and I replicated the exact same changes, but the amendment calculator came up with a value that was 2306 different than the edited return results and not in my favor.  I looked at the 1040 file and other modified files between the two and the result were the same, yet TT amend results are different.   I guess, I need to dig into why the results are different.  Are there any obvious reasons why this would occur?

Yes, if you didn't indicate that you had already paid your Tax Due on your original return, the amended return may have changed the newTax Due incorrectly.

When you indicate that you already paid the Tax Due in your Amendment, the 1040X should show the difference between the original Tax Due and the new amount of Tax Due (or amount of Refund if the new Tax Due amount is less).

When you first start your Amendment, the Refund Meter should show $0.  When you're finished with your changes, the refund meter shows any additional amount owed or refunded to you.

Compare your original 1040 to the 1040X. Look at the amounts in Column B (changes) on the 1040X.  The Column A amounts should match your original 1040.

@MarilynG1

I paid the taxes due at the time I filed to avoid any additional penalties.      I didn't get a question if I already paid the amount due on the amended form.  The meter indicated I would get a refund, so I'm assuming it knew I paid the taxes.

I hope I don't need to make any further amendments and that my original calculation is correct and not what is shown in the meter.   I owed and paid about $48K in my original filing and the delta between the original and the modified original was $10K less, while the amended meter showed I would get a refund/delta of about $7.5K.  I owed penalties in both, which I had TT add to the original, but the penalty was not nearly as much as the difference I'm seeing.

I hope I don't have to make any additional changes / re-amendments and that my calculation is correct and the TT  amend meter is incorrect.
