I am amending my 2023 Missouri state taxes because I forgot to enter a subtraction (from income). This only affect state taxes, not federal. When trying to complete the amendment, it is hung up on requiring a date on line 47D of the MO-1040. The reason is D, correction other than A, B, or C. It reads "Enter date of federal amended return, if filed". Well, one wasn't filed, but it is insisting on a date.
I thought about just printing the form and mailing it without completing it, but it kind of sounds like MO expects you to amend federal.
-Do I have to file a federal, even if it is unaffected?
-If not, how can I work around this date TurboTax is requiring?
-If I can just print and mail, which forms will I need to mail? Thanks in advance.

You don't need to file a federal extension if your changes don't impact your federal return.
If you print and mail the return, you'll need to include the MO-1040 and any forms that changed as a result of the amendment.
What version of TurboTax are you using? When you leave the date blank are you getting a message that the date field is required when you get ready to file the amendment?
This morning I updated and now it is not requiring a date. I printed it out and was researching where to mail it since the filing instructions did not state. I just noticed that at the very top of the return there is an X in "Federal Turn Attached", and I am unable to uncheck it.
I guess I am going to get some whiteout to uncheck it?
I forgot to mention I am Turbotax Premier 023.000.613.
