I normally have someone do my taxes so I thought this year I would do it with TurboTax. Bought the Software, did my taxes, but did have my tax man do them as well and file them. Thought I would check and see how close I was with Turbotax to what he did. After he did them I received another 1099 Int plus I disputed with him the sales tax deduction for the state. I purchased a car so I had a big purchase so TurboTax gave me the normal deduction for state sales tax plus the large purchase. My tax guy's software didn't give me the deduction for the large purchase. I want to make sure I can take both and then and do an amended return. Question 1 - Can I do an amended form using Turbotax even if I didn't file with Turbotax. Question 2 - Can I take both the large purchase sales tax deduction for Kansas plus the normal state sales tax deduction?

1. If your original return was not prepared with TurboTax, it would be more complex to prepare an amended return with TurboTax. You would have to recreate the tax return as filed in TurboTax.
2. Yes, you can claim sales tax as calculated for your state plus the out-of-state sales tax on your car as it is a major purchase.
