Accidentally hit part time resident for second state return. Need to change but program DOES NOT give me option to correct it to non resident! How do I get it changed?

It says “if part time Missouri resident isn’t correct to go back to personal info at start of program and change it”   On state form, it never lets me select another option.  On my primary state and federal form I have full time resident in Illinois. This system is REALLY frustrating me! I cannot delete the forms and start over as I already paid. I tried!

In TurboTax Online, while logged in to your return, click on "State" on the far left of your screen.  Then click on "Your State Returns" in the top center of the screen.  Select the state for which you want to change residency status, and click on "Continue".  After being asked if you filed a Missouri return last year, you should be able to change your residency status.

David - thanks for replying.  No, it doesn’t.  IT SHOULD but it doesn’t.  In fact, it asks me about filing property taxes and takes me back to a screen to file as a part time nonresident or part time resident.  NO option to just choose nonresident.  Any other suggestions by chance?  I am full time Illinois resident on federal and Illinois return.  The system doesn’t even catch the Missouri residency error, given the I answered I was a full time resident in another state.

To edit this information:

  1. With your return open, select My Info in the left-hand menu.
  2. Then, on the Personal info summary screen, scroll down to Other State Income, and select Edit.
  3. At the Did you make money in any other states? question, answer Yes and make sure your nonresident state(s) are selected from the drop-down.
  4. Select Continue to return to your Personal info summary.

Thank you.  This has been done. I have Missouri down as earning income in another state.  Still have the problem.
