A value appears in the Other Income Tax field but I have made no entries or edits and none of the conditions apply to me. Can it be removed somehow?

An extraneous,  value unknown to me appears in the Deductions/Credits page for Other Income Tax.  When I enter the section, none of the conditions apply to me,  I have made no entries or edits.  All the prompt boxes show START, yet a somewhat large value has been generated.

How do I remove or verify that the value shown is not affecting my current year tax return?

Since you are using the desktop version of the program, you should be able to click on the actual number itself and a breakdown of what encompasses that number should show on screen.  (There is also a tax payments worksheet in your Forms Mode that would show those entries).

The number itself summarizes ALL of the taxes you have paid either directly or through withholdings on Forms such as W2s, 1099s, etc for both your federal and state returns.  For example, that number would include both of your Federal and state withholdings from your W2s.  It can also include local taxes, refunds applied to this year's taxes from a prior year, balances due from prior years that were paid in this year, and payments made with any extension you might file.

While it shows under Deductions and Credits, it’s actually just a summary number and not necessarily related to any particular deduction (some of it is not even a deduction - i.e. federal taxes withheld on your federal return).
